The Murmansk Shipping Company was founded in 1939 as an enterprise specializing in transportations in the Arctic regions, and nowadays is the leading shipping company providing all-the-year-round transportation on the Northern Sea route. The Company has added a lot of vivid pages to the history of the Soviet and Russian shipping for more than six last decades. The MSCO vessels actively participated in the voyages of allied escorts during the World War II. Much was done after the war, too, when diesel electric and later nuclear powered vessels substituted steamer fleet. For all the years when the Company was the state enterprise the Governments paid prior attention to radical renewal of the fleet. |
